Why You Should Listen to YouTube Like a Podcast

You can listen to YouTube in the background for free by playing videos through a mobile web browser in desktop mode instead of using the official YouTube app. Because background playback is officially a paid YouTube Premium feature, the native mobile app automatically blocks audio when minimized.

Follow these easy workarounds to bypass this restriction on both iPhone and Android devices. For iPhone Users (Safari) Open Safari: Navigate to the official YouTube website.

Find Your Video: Search for the video or playlist you want to hear.

Request Desktop Site: Tap the aA icon in the Safari search bar, then select Request Desktop Website from the menu.

Play and Minimize: Start the video, then swipe up to return to your Home screen. The audio will temporarily pause.

Resume Playback: Swipe down to open your iPhone’s Control Center (or look at your Lock Screen) and tap the Play button on the media widget to resume the audio. For Android Users (Google Chrome)
