X-VirtualDubMod is the portable version of VirtualDubMod, packaged by winPenPack to run directly off a USB flash drive without local installation. It is a powerful, free, open-source utility that unifies several modifications of the original VirtualDub—including VirtualDubMPEG2, VirtualDubOGM, and VirtualDubAVS. It is primarily recognized as a highly efficient tool for multiplexing (muxing), demultiplexing, cutting, and splicing audio and video streams without needing to re-encode the original video. Key Capabilities of VirtualDubMod

Container Flexibility: Extends standard AVI support to include Matroska (MKV) and Ogg Media (OGM) containers.

Stream Management: Features a dedicated “Streams” list allowing you to manage, add, or disable multiple audio and subtitle tracks within a single video file.

Direct Stream Copy: Allows cutting, appending, and muxing files instantly without lowering video quality or wasting time re-encoding.

AviSynth Integration: Includes advanced handling of AviSynth scripts directly from the file loading menu. Step-by-Step Guide: Multiplexing Audio and Video

Multiplexing (muxing) is the process of combining a standalone video track and one or more audio tracks into a single container file. Follow this guide to multiplex streams using X-VirtualDubMod: 1. Import the Video Track Open X-VirtualDubMod. Go to File > Open video file and select your base video.

Note: If your video contains an existing audio track you want to replace, you can disable it in the next section. 2. Manage and Add Audio Streams

Unlike standard VirtualDub (which uses an “Audio” menu), VirtualDubMod consolidates audio tracks into a master controls center. Click on Streams in the top menu and select Stream list.

To disable an existing audio track, click on it and select Disable.

To add your new audio track (e.g., an MP3, AC3, or WAV file), click the Add button.

Browse and select your audio file. It will appear sequentially in the list. Click OK. 3. Match Audio & Video Compression

To make sure you do not trigger a massive, time-consuming re-encoding pass that degrades your video quality, configure your processing settings:

Video Setting: Click Video in the top menu and ensure Direct stream copy is checked. This copies the video precisely as-is.

Audio Setting: In the Stream list menu, right-click your newly added audio track. Ensure it is set to Direct stream copy so the original audio file passes through unmodified. 4. Save the Multiplexed File
